2018 marks the start of a new tax affecting many Massachusetts employers. Join us an informative session covering the following:
We encourage you to join us for this complimentary online session hosted by
Paul Carelis, HR Division Leader at MassPay.
More details about this important new tax:
The Employer Medical Assistance Contribution (EMAC) Supplement tax, also known as EMAC Tier 2 was signed into law last year and goes into effect this quarter. This tax is levied on employers with 6 or more employees who have at least 1 non-disabled employee receiving health insurance from MassHealth or subsidized coverage via the State’s ConnectorCare program. The potential assessment is up to $750 per applicable employee, per year.
The state will be administering the new EMAC tax via their established Unemployment Insurance Online system. We encourage all employers to verify that they have the necessary login info as this will be the only way to review the charges and appeal, if applicable.
The state will be calculating amounts due following MassPay’s submission of the quarter one wage detail in early April. We will be reaching out to all clients who show a supplementary payment due. If interested, MassPay can process and make this payment on your behalf. The fee for this service will be $60. While a communication sent out by the state provides instructions for making changes, there is no need to assign Masspay any additional Third Party Administrator (TPA) roles in the UI system.
To help explain this regulation in greater detail, MassPay will be offering a complementary webinar on Wednesday March 28 at 10AM. You can register for the webinar HERE. We will also record the session for any interested clients who cannot attend. Thank you.
Recent headlines say it all. Harassment, particularly sexual harassment, is alive and well, and seems to be the norm in many industries, especially restaurants, the media and heavily dominated male work environments. This is causing a huge backlash from victims against the perpetrator, as well as the employer, who knowingly covers up and effectively supports these behaviors. This will be costly.
