Our Story - MassPay


MassPay started with an idea to provide payroll and insurance services to small companies who needed personal attention.  This became a reality in August 2004, with two people working in the attic of a house in Lowell, Massachusetts (shown at left).

Over the past decade, MassPay has developed a reputation for integrity and personal service to clients on the North Shore, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and now, across the country.

MassPay Growth

As the company grew in revenue and employees, MassPay had to expand office space four times over a ten year span.

On March 1, 2015, MassPay moved to its current headquarters at 500 Cummings Center in Beverly, Massachusetts, doubling its space in order to support growth in business and staff.

2014 - The Break-Through Year

  • Started a new division – HR Services (ASO) to provide HR/Payroll consulting to companies who do not have internal resources or who have gaps in providing HR services and compliance
  • Expanded our product suite by offering advanced solutions for HR – iSolved HCM
  • Named as a Pacesetter by the Boston Business Journal as one of the 70 fastest growing privately held companies in Massachusetts
  • Named to Inc. 5000 List of fastest growing companies

2015 - The Banner Year

  • Named to the 2015 Pacesetter List of the 70 fastest growing privately held companies in Massachusetts for the second year in a row
  • Named to Inc. 5000 List of fastest growing companies for a second consecutive year
  • Named one of the Best Places to Work by the Boston Business Journal among Massachusetts companies
  • Jason Maxwell named a BBJ 40 under 40 Honoree (business leaders making a major impact in the community while also improving the civic health of the Boston area through volunteer work and other philanthropy)
  • Doubled our number of HR Services (ASO) clients
  • Expanded our Business Development and Operations teams

2016 - On The Growth Curve

  • In February 2016, the Greater Beverly Chamber of Commerce named us “Large Employer of the Year” for our record of longevity, stability & success that demonstrates community consciousness with civic/community involvement. We were honored to be recognized among such great chamber member companies that we serve and partner with to improve our client experience.
  • In August 2016, MassPay was named to the Inc. 5000, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies, for the third consecutive year.


2017 - The Honor We Are Most Proud About

On February 28, 2017, MassPay was awarded an international Gold Stevie Award for "Customer Service and Client Support Team of The Year".  

Some of the primary reasons MassPay received the Gold Award include:

• High client retention rate
• Glowing testimonials (and video) from Clients & Partners

These factors align with one of MassPay’s core values – WOW Service. Providing WOW service requires professionalism, responsiveness and effective communication. Helping clients overcome hurdles and working through tough times makes the relationship that much stronger and rewarding.

Being recognized for those efforts makes this award truly special. The Gold Customer Service and Client Support Team of The Year Award will serve as a constant reminder to all of us at MassPay to always provide Wow Service to our clients.

MassPay’s continued investment in people, products and office space has caused us to step out of our comfort zone, set aggressive growth goals, focus on serving clients and evolve MassPay for the future.
